As part of our payment security, all card transactions are verified with your card issuer.
When a payment card (Visa, MasterCard, Debit Visa, etc...) is added or updated, a $1 authorization is performed with your card issuer. This is an authorization only, and not a charge. The authorization transaction is not completed... dropping of your card in a couple of days (time varies by card issuer).
This is an authorization only (to verify the card) and not a charge.
What is being verified and why?
When a card is added or updated, the following are verified with your card issuer:
- CVV (Card Verification Value)
Providing your CVV number proves that you actually have the physical credit or debit card - and helps to keep you safe while reducing fraud.
CVV numbers are NOT your card's secret PIN (Personal Identification Number). You should never enter your PIN number when asked to provide your CVV.
AVS (Address Verification Service)
The Address Verification Service (AVS) is a tool provided by credit card processors and issuing banks in order to detect suspicious credit card transactions and prevent credit card fraud.
** AVS is also done as part of the request for authorization on each and every credit card transaction we make.
